Trakia University:

Trakia University – Stara Zagora was re-established in 1995 following the merging of the highly regarded Veterinary College of Agriculture & Zoology and the Technical College.Trakia University is a member of the European Association of Universities (EUA) and the International Association of Universities (IAU). The Universities consists of 6 faculties – Agricultural Faculty with an educational and experimental base, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine with clinics, Faculty of Medicine with a University Hospital, Faculty of Pedagogy, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Technology. Available in English – Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Agronomy, Zoo engineering, Fish Farming and Aquaculture, Agrarian Engineering, Ecology and Environment Protection as well as exchange programmes. Medical College is training almost 250 students in EQD “professional bachelor” of which 1/5 are foreigners. Teaching is carried out by highly qualified teachers, half of whom are professors.Trakia University qualifications are automatically valid in all EU/EEA countries and are recognized all over the world.

Medicine:

The Medicine course lasts for six years, spanning 10 semesters of academic training, and is taught entirely through English.
● The first two years of the program focus on pre-clinical study and theory, with years 3-5 concentrated primarily on a clinical study.
● The final year of the course is an internship year consisting of 310 days of medical rotations prior to graduating. During this internship year, students must sit state exams for licensing.
● Students will also undertake compulsory summer practical internships in years 2-4.
● When students fulfill the requirements of the academic program and final year internship, in addition to passing state exams, they are granted the professional qualification of Physician or Doctor of Medicine (MD) and awarded a Master’s degree of global recognition.
● Many graduates choose to remain in Bulgaria to pursue their medical careers, while others will either return to their home country or pursue a medical career elsewhere.
● There are currently thousands of medical practitioners who graduated from universities in Bulgaria.

Veterinary Medicine

  • Veterinary medicine is a 5 and half year program culminating with an internship in affiliated hospitals and clinics. Which Taught entirely in English.
  • The first 3 years focus on fundamental pre-clinical and para-clinical skills with an obligatory summer course in the 3rd year. The course focus then shifts to clinical practice with a clinical training internship in the 4th year.
  • In the 5th year, students undergo species-orientated training and work in mobile clinics and help with practical training.
  • Students have to complete state exams in their final year.
  • On the basis of graduation, students are awarded a master’s degree and the qualification of the veterinarian.

Practical Training

Practical training of students of medical college is carried out in training labs and specialized cabinets, as well as clinical stations (public and private health structures), in the city and the region.

Scientific Priorities

In addition to wider health problems in Bulgaria and around the world, research activities of the academic staff of the medical college are focused by priority on Health care problems; State of health care, and health care reform: actual problems; Improvement of the training of healthcare, etc.

Facilities for Training and Research

Trakia University has modern lecture halls, laboratories, and offices for workshops on Massage Therapy, Physical Therapy, Therapeutic massage, clinical and microbiological study, and research laboratories.

International Cooperation

Trakia University medical college works on bilateral cooperation contracts in the fields of education and science with universities in Switzerland, Latvia, etc.

Admission Requirements

Applicants are required to submit the following documents

  • An application form including your biographical data, educational history, and the course for which you are applying.
  • Diploma (a copy) of completed secondary education with an academic transcript of the disciplines studied.
  • A document issued by relevant authorities in the country secondary education was completed, confirming that the candidate has the right to continue education in higher schools and universities.
  • Health certificate issued less than one month prior to application and verified in the country the candidate is applying.
  • Two 4/5 cm photographs.
  • All documents must be translated into Bulgarian and authorized in accordance with official state directives.

Tuition Fee

 €7,000 (approx £6,200) per year

Life in Stara Zagora:

Stara Zagora is one of Bulgaria’s major cities with a powerful economy owing to the industries in its suburbs except it has a relatively small population of 150,000. It has a mild climate with low mountains and hills nearby to protect from northern winds, while its proximity to the Black Sea means that winter is warmer here than in most parts of Bulgaria. It is one of the greenest and safest cities in the country and it is an amazing place to be a student. It is famous as the city of poets and offers a wide range of arts and cultural activities that were impressively rebuilt after the war of liberation, with an excellent road structure and huge public squares and plazas. The most attractive part is, it has the Roman Amphitheatre, Arch of Trajan, opera house, and Z name monument.
